School of Allied Health Sciences, Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation - DU, Salem, We were delighted to celebrate Onam, Kerala's harvest festival, on our campus today. The event, themed "Thagha Thai Thonam 2025," was a vibrant and culturally enriching experience. The program began with the singing of "Tamil Thaai Valthu," followed by the ceremonial lighting of a lamp in front of a beautiful Onam pookolam. The atmosphere was filled with the rhythmic beats of the Sendai melam. Prof. Dr. B. Sendilkumar, Dean & Director of the School of Allied Health Sciences, delivered an insightful speech highlighting the cultural, historical, and spiritual significance of Onam. He emphasized the festival's symbolism of King Mahabali's homecoming and its role in promoting unity, harmony, and cultural pride. Cultural Performances, Students enthusiastically participated in various cultural performances, including:
Thiruvathirakali, Classical dances, Vanji paatu, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Traditional dances
Fun-filled Activities: The celebration also included exciting games like: Uriyadi, Tug of war, Water bottle filling, Musical chair, Weight lifting, Lemon and spoon. The event concluded with a grand Onam sadhya (Kerala feast), which was enjoyed by all. Over 1,000 students participated in the celebration, expressing gratitude to everyone for their contributions. The Onam celebration was a grand success, reflecting the spirit of unity and cultural heritage. We are grateful to all who participated and made this event memorable.
